Listen to “So will I” by Hillsong United
This song has truly brought me to tears today. My heart is full, and my Lord is at the center. Isn’t that what worship songs are supposed to do? They speak to our hearts about our Lord, and to our Lord from our hearts through the words and music. And they speak truths that are poetically masterpieced in ways that we don’t just speak. If ever there was a song that speaks from the very depths of my heart…this is.
This song makes me think of some things that seem to always be on my mind. One is that if we don’t sing the praises of our God, then the rocks will. And the mountains and trees and the splendor of all creation sings His praises. So will I.
Luke 19:37-40 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
Another thought is the saying, “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. When we admire something about someone so much, we imitate it. And when we see Jesus; when we truly see God and really, to some capacity, know Him, we desire to be like Him. And not only do we want to be like Him, but because the Holy Spirit lives in us, He transforms and refines us to be like Him. So as the Lord does, so will I.
1 John 2:6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.
One more thought that I often have is that Jesus is perfect, and yet in His perfection He loves each of us, and offers us salvation and forgiveness even though we are born sinners. He loves and forgives us who sent Him to the cross. Who then am I to do treat anyone any differently than Him.
The loving shepherd went and searched for the one lost lamb, found him and brought him home. (Mat 18:10-14) He would also do the same for me and you. I will sing the praises of the One who will never turn His back on me, no matter who I am and what choices I make. His heart yearns for each one of us, longing to have a relationship with us. His heart aches and breaks for us, and cheers and rejoices for us. He is our Father, our greatest advocate; the One who loves us in a way that no one else can. If He can love that one, then so will I.
I wish I could fully comprehend the love that He has for me. Even as I continue to pursue Him and love Him day in and day out, I will not understand the greatness of His love for me until the day I move on from this earth to life in eternity with Him. It’s just not humanly possible to grasp the fullness of God, but sometimes I feel like we catch small glimpses of the glory and wonder of His great love. In those moments our hearts are in awe, and we see the splendor of His majesty, His wonder…why He is God and we are not. As we recognize this, we bow our hearts and praise and worship Him in all the beauty that we can comprehend.
I am so thankful for Jesus in my life; for who He is, for what He has done and continues to do, for His hand in everything. He leaves me in awe over and over. Because He first loved me and crowned me in glory and splendor (Ps 8:5), then so will I… I have the privilege of loving Him in return… and I will glorify Him with my life, all of my days.
1 Corinthians 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
My Lord, Jesus, I love You. I love You and I am in awe of You, and Your amazing love for all of us. Lord, You have put us above the rest of creation (Ps 8:4-8), and it still cries out Your praises. So who then are we to not sing out and cry out Your praises each day? We are created to glorify You, and I pray that in word and in deed we will worship You today and forever. I pray that we will not remain silent, but we will sing the praises of Him who brought us out of darkness into His marvelous light! (1 Pet 2:9)You alone are worthy to be praised, and I will praise You with the breath that You breathed into me! Amen
