I knelt on my bedroom floor with my head bowed in hopelessness, my hands pressed into the carpet after pounding them into it over and over from frustration. Just trying to hold myself steady for a moment…physically and emotionally. Why? How? Where are You, Lord, and where were You? Why didn’t you stop this from happening?  I cried out in helplessness, anger, confusion, and more brokenness than I had ever known. But I knew I needed God, whether I trusted Him in that moment or not. He was the only One I turned to; and I continued to turn to Him each day to get me through this situation. I am who I am today because I praised Him anyhow, and because I decided to trust Him even though I didn’t understand. And I have a testimony that shouts of God’s faithfulness and goodness.

Our brokenness can drive us to the throne of God, seeking His mercy, grace, and comfort. When we are at our lowest, it’s truly as if we have no where else to turn but up. And when we do, God saves us.

Psalm 34:18   The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.


Isaiah 57:15   For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite

That doesn’t necessarily mean that He takes our troubles away. It means He gives us peace and hope, and in that we can be content. It may seem hard to believe that through life’s hardest blows we can still have these things. But it doesn’t matter what we have been through or what we are going through. In the Bible it says in all circumstances that we can learn to be content because Jesus is our strength. And in that we can praise Him with a grateful and sincere heart.

Philippians 4:11-13    I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

As we keep our focus on Jesus, and press through the circumstances around us, our spirits are lifted and become stronger because of the Holy Spirit that is not quenched within us. We learn patience and endurance. And in the end, we have a personal testimony to bear witness to the goodness of God. Each time I feel crushed, I have come out better because I kept my sight on God, and I couldn’t wait to shout out what the Lord has done for me!

Sing out and cry out hallelujah today, because the Lord is good!!!

Let’s Pray

Lord, You are good and Your mercy endures forever. You are good and greatly to be praised! Your loving kindness is everlasting! My God, You are faithful! We offer our hearts to You, Lord. All praise and thanks to You who gives us hope and peace beyond our understanding! You hold us steady when don’t have any strength of our own. Help us to share what You have done in our lives, when opportunities are presented, that someone else’s faith might be strengthened. Praise You, Jesus, our Lord! Amen.
