Listen to “Diamonds” by Hawk Nelson

I chose the song Diamonds this week because I am teaching the children in my church a dance to it. A few months ago, the little ones that I care for and I were singing and dancing and jumping around to it. Right then, I thought this would be perfect for a children’s dance!

This song is about being refined under pressure. That’s life! Each season we go through, we are (hopefully) being refined, purified, and perfected. When the pressure is on, it’s easy to give up or give in to whatever is easier or feels better. But we have to persevere through the tough times. Not only just deal with the hand we’re dealt, but accept it with contentment. If we keep our eyes on our Father, we will have the peace, joy, hope and strength that only comes from the Lord.

Through my own trials, one thing that I would always ask myself when deciding how to respond to the situation was, ” Who do I say that I am, and who do I want to be when it’s over”. My answers… I am a daughter of the King, Jesus, and I want to be considered trustworthy, faithful, strong, a light in the dark, a testimony of grace hope and love when it’s all said and done.

1 Peter 1:7   These (trials) have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

James 1:2-4   Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:12   Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Isaiah 48:10   See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.

So when you’re under pressure and going through the fire ask yourself these questions. Who do you say that you are, and who do you want to be when it’s over? Let your Father make a diamond out of you!

Let’s Pray

Lord, You are good and wonderful. Your ways are always best. And whether I realize it or not, help me to remember this when I am discouraged. My hope, strength and joy are in You. When I find myself under pressure, please help me to remember who I am and who I want to be in the end. Thank You, Lord, for refining me in Your perfect way and perfect timing. I need You and I love You. Amen.
