I’ve been blessed in my life with wonderful women. Special women who are kind, nurturing, and giving; women who fear the Lord, who followed Him and loved Him with a passion. I’d like to share a little bit about my Grandmothers today.
My mom’s mother was my Grandma Hunter. One of my favorite things about my Grandma was how she loved the Lord. I always watched her. The way she would read her Bible and write as she studied. She loved to sing praises to Him and spend time in prayer. When we needed her or just wanted to play with her, she would just stop what she was doing and take care of us, or create a fun project for us with a smile on her face.
There have been times when my kids interrupt me during my devotional time, and I would end up behaving with much less than a smile! And one time, that picture of my childhood raced through my mind and heart. And I realized I wanted to be like my Grandma. I decided to stop letting myself get frustrated with my kids for interrupting my time with God. And now each time they come to me in my quiet time, I think of her, and the jewel that I was to her. She didn’t just love spending time with Jesus; she was like Jesus. He would have welcomed the kids right onto His lap; as the special gift that they, and we all, are. That’s who I try to be.
Mark 9:36-37 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.
My dad’s mother was my Grandma Babe. She was everything to me, and the sweetest woman I have ever known. She was always cooking and cleaning, and generally just taking care of us. If anyone needed anything, she was always right on top of it and then some. If anything could be “sugar coated”, she would slather it on (sometimes with a little spice…sweet doesn’t have to be boring! lol). She played with us, and would let me sneak in to her bed at night. Then she would sing to me as she gently ticked my face until I would fall asleep. She loved us so much.
I want my kids to feel the way my Gram made me feel… Like there was no one more special in the world. I believe that our Father, God wants us to also realize how special we are to Him.
Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
My Treasures & God’s Treasures
When I think of both of my Grandmothers, I have such warm memories. They were beautiful, strong women who recognized the value of each person around them. What a blessing they were and still are to me. I love them and really do miss them so much. Now they are with the Father in heaven living in all the fullness that He created them for. I know that my treasures are being stored up in heaven, and that Jesus is the ultimate treasure, but I believe that they are also my treasures in heaven; as they are pillars in my life who pointed me to my Father, God.
Just as we have treasures in people and in heaven, God treasures us. He created us in His very image, and placed all of His creation in our care. He made us just how and who we are to serve Him with purpose and passion; to continue to share His love and lead more people to grasp how He values them so.
Psalm 8:3-6 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet
Do you know your worth? And do you know the worth of each person around you?
Lord, thank You for blessing me with beautiful examples of Your love and kindness. Thank You for the time that I had the privilege of spending with both of my Grandmas; their lives, rich with love, surrender and service whether they realized it or not. Thank You for loving me, Father.
I ask that for each one who reads this, that You would open their eyes to the women that they have to look up to whether physically related or not. And also help each one to realize the value that You place on their lives, and each and every life. Help us to be You to those around us; spreading love, kindness, nurturing, and generosity in Your name. Please speak quickly to our hearts when we are not treating others as You would treat them. We are all Your creations, and Your heart is that we would all choose and know You. I pray that we would not push people away, but draw them in with Your life that flows through us. Thank You, Lord for valuing each on of us, and calling us all by name. We love you, Father. Amen.
