Proverbs 3:5-6I belong to God because I trust Him to be in control of every situation

In the past “I Belong Series” articles, we talked about ways that we belong to God. He created us, we choose Him, and we live for Him. But we also have to trust Him; that His will is good, and that He will use each situation in our lives for the His glory. We have to give this part of ourselves to God as part of belonging to Him.

The nature of God is love, and all things good. And sometimes it’s hard for us to see how a tough situation could actually be good, but our God has the big picture in His grip. He sees how each person touching the situation directly and indirectly is effected in the moment, and further down the road.

Romans 8:28   And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

We never really know how situations are going to end up in this life. but because God is love and good, we can trust that one way or another He will shine through every trial and circumstance to show us and others His love and goodness.

Proverbs 3:5-6   Trust in the LORD with all your heart And lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.

It is not just about us/me in this life. It’s about the kingdom of God; building it by saving lives. Sometimes our heartaches lead to someone else’s salvation. And all that really matters is that the lost are saved. Jesus doesn’t want any one of us to perish.

Luke 19:10   For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Maybe you have suffered great tragedy or loss, and you might think that all of this is easy for me to say. But I am no stranger to loss and suffering. Through it, I have witnessed saved lives, and though I wished it didn’t have to happen the way it did, I wouldn’t change any of it. And even though it was very difficult to deal with, I am forever grateful that I was used.

In hard times, we need to turn our hearts to Jesus for comfort, help, answers, and to just flat-out let go of trying to have control and let Him handle the situation. We never really know the goodness that He has in store through it! Trust that.

Sometimes we might feel angry with God. Why would He allow these things to happen when they weren’t even right. But He won’t take the freedom of choice away from any of us. Sometimes people choose bad and hurt others in the process. So even though we might be angry, we should take that to Him and He will give us peace. If God wants us to choose to belong to Him freely, then He must also allow us to have the choice to not belong to Him; so that when we do choose Him, it is the real deal. And when we truly love Him, we can love Him through the good times and the bad, right? True love is unconditional.

But also, He doesn’t give up on us when we lose our focus on Him. When we go through a trial, it can feel like we’ve been backed into a corner with no way out. But there is always a way. Perhaps every lifeline has been taken from us so that we must become desperate for God, and that very trial turns our eyes to Him. Because sometimes we forget to look to God, and we rely on our own control to make things work out (whether it really works or not). But God is good. He works through our trials; whether it’s the way we expected or not, or in our favor or not.

When we keep our eyes on Him, we can’t deny the closeness that is a result, even if we don’t see any other results. Because His ways are good and best, we must trust that even if we don’t see God’s plan or outcome, that He truly DOES have a plan and that there WILL BE a blessed outcome.

Psalms 9:9-10   The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Trusting Him means that we let go of control of all of it… we don’t need to know, we don’t need to see, we don’t need results, we just need to let it go.

Our job is to seek God; to draw nearer to Him, and pray over the situation. We need to learn to be content in our situation, because we trust God’s goodness. In doing this, we surrender a part of our lives that truly proves our belonging to God. If we don’t, then we are proving that we cannot trust Him, and that we believe that we can handle it better than Him, ultimately saying that we do not belong to Him in that area of life. What is a relationship without trust? And part of the point of our relationship with God is giving our lives to Him fully and completely as part of our worship of Him. We must surrender our situations to God to grow closer to Him and to know the fullness of Him.

And honestly, when we surrender our trust to God, we will be blessed in ways that we might not expect, and we can more easily let go of fear and anxiety. We can love Him more and better. Our overall quality of life will be better, regardless of our circumstances.

Isaiah 40:31   but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Let’s Pray

Lord, I love You and I want to fully belong to You, and trust You with everything in my life. I know that no matter what I am going through, that I have You walking with me, carrying me, and handling everything according to Your perfect and good will.

Help me to remember that no matter what I see,Your ways are best; they are for the good of all, and to save the lost. I realize that the lost one in my situation could be me or someone else. Help me not to be impatient or selfish in my suffering, but trusting and thankful that You are working good through it. My life is not my own, but Yours to use as a strategic piece to help save the lost. I am so thankful for each season and trial that comes my way, because I know that Your hand is on them all. I love You, Father. Amen.
