Listen to “Brave Surrender” by Kim Walker-Smith, written by Kim Walker-Smith, Nick Herbert, Lindsey Sweat, Ben Cantelon
When we accept Jesus, our lives begin to change. We transform more and more into His image, and our fruits and the way we love one another are the proof of the Holy Spirit within us. But we also have choices to make and control to let go of. Whether it’s things that we choose to be part of our lives or situations that we didn’t choose, it’s a hard thing sometimes to surrender ourselves to God.
When we surrender ourselves to God, we let go of things that aren’t of God, or things that keep us from fully surrendering ourselves to Him. Sometimes it’s a relationship, or a habit, a t.v. show, or a game… Anything that takes our time away from Him, or that takes priority in our lives over Him.
Another way we choose to surrender ourselves to God is trusting His goodness in our situations and circumstances. I will be writing more on this later this week.
Regardless of what we surrender to God, it’s a sacrifice on our part. It’s usually something that brings us some sort of comfort, happiness, a sense of belonging, or maybe gives us a sense of control. But none of these things compare to the real peace, joy, and love that we receive from Jesus.
I believe He wants us to choose what is better today. Turn off the t.v., put down your phone, walk away from that negative influence, open your hand and let go of that bad habit… Spend that moment, that period of time that you are letting go of something with God. Pray, open a Bible and just start reading. One step at a time, be brave and surrender one choice for a better choice. Let yourself belong to God more and more today.
Matthew 16:24-26 Then Jesus said to his disciples,“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” NIV84
Lord, I give myself to You today; to Your plan, to Your will. Use me in this life according to Your perfect plan; what You have predestined me for. I’m letting go of the things of this world that hold me back from giving myself fully to You. Help me to let go when these things are made known to me. Lord, I belong to You. Please give me the strength and courage each day to live as Yours. Amen.
