What does it mean to belong to God ?
I belong to God because I accepted Jesus as my Savior & the Holy Spirit lives in me
The last post was about belonging to God because He created us. When we make something, it is ours. Even if we give it as a gift, we still have a sense of creative ownership. Our thumbprint is forever on that creation just like God’s thumbprint is on us. But there are other types of belonging. And belonging to God is more than just being His creation.
I believe the biggest reason that we belong to God is because He has given us the freedom to choose Him as our personal Savior; acknowledge Him in our lives, and follow Him. When we do this, the Holy Spirit lives in each of us. He is our helper; the voice of truth in our hearts. Which makes us not only His creation, but His sons and daughters. We are heirs of our Father, the King of Kings.
Really, the fact that we get to choose to accept and love Jesus or not is amazing to me, but it’s the only way for our choice and our love to be true. We are not His slaves or robots forced to be, do, and choose against our own will. We have our own thoughts and ideas. So in order for us to be able to choose love for ourselves also means that we might choose something other than Jesus. He had to do it this way because it’s the only way for it to be true love when we do say, “yes, I choose You!” When we choose Him it is because we want to; because we realize we want and need Him.
Will you choose to belong to God today?
John 14:19-20 & 26 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. You will live because I live. 20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you… 26 the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you.
Romans 8:14-17 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.15 The Greek word for adoption to sonship is a term referring to the full legal standing of an adopted male heir in Roman culture; also in verse 23. And by him we cry, “Abba,15 Aramaic for fatherFather.” 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.
Father, thank You for giving me the freedom to choose You. I am so thankful that You don’t force us to love You falsely, but that You want real love from us. I wouldn’t want to love You any other way. Holy Spirit, You are my helper; the voice of truth living inside of me. You lead me and guide me, and bring me up to be more like You. Help me to always listen for You and follow You. I love You. Amen.
And for you who has never said “yes” to Jesus, but you realize you need Him in your life…
Jesus, I need You, I want You, and today I choose You to come into my life. I need a change. I need something that this world can’t offer. Please change my heart this very day. I give You my life, Father. I love You. Amen.
