Listen to “O Come To the Altar” by Elevation Worship
Psalm 43:3-5 Send me your light and your truth, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. 4 Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God. 5 Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
God draws us near to Him. He draws us to His altar to seek Him for help and forgiveness. And He will give us freedom and peace to leave behind our past mistakes. He will take our worries and burdens and give us peace and rest. God doesn’t want to throw our past failures in our face; He wants us to keep our eyes set on Him and on the path ahead of us. He wants us to have freedom from who we once were. His Word tells us,
1 Corinthians 5:17-19 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; The old has gone, the new is here! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19 that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
So come to the altar today, wherever you are. In your house, in your car, at work… Leave the things there at the altar with Jesus, that are weighing so heavy on your heart.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God, the Savior of all, has the power, strength, and endurance to carry it all. Isn’t He wonderful!? Let’s bow down before Him, and give praise and thanksgiving! His arms are open wide waiting for each of us to come to Him; so that we can be redeemed!
Psalm 68:19-20 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. 20 Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.
Father, you are my Savior and my Redeemer. You wait for me with open arms and forgiveness even though I don’t deserve it. Lord, please forgive me today for holding on to things that I know I should have already let go of. Forgive me for harboring wrong and negative things in my mind and in my heart. I don’t want to hurt and worry any more. Lord, I hand these things over to You in exchange for Your forgiveness, and peace that passes all of my understanding! I thank You for giving me freedom today, that I don’t have to be weighed down any longer by my past because You have made me a new creation! Thank You, Lord! You are wonderful and worthy of all praise! Amen.
